Samsung Pays Apple $1,051,855,000

Wow, what a sad day for competition in the mobile world. Apple and its oodles of $$$ has sued Samsung for over a billion dollars, and won. The lawsuit was based around Samsung copying the look and feel of Apple's iOS. Here is interesting comment from a Mobile Syrup reader:

"20 page jury form with 700 questions in 33 categories. The jury was required to reach consensus on any ‘guilt’ findings and then determine damages for each. Does 1.5 days of deliberations see [sic] a little fast to have 9 people agree on all of that?"

It does seem suspicious that the jurors came to a unanimous decision so quickly. It makes you wonder if the outcome would have been the same if the case was held in Korea or in a neutral territory instead of in California (Apple's home state while Samsung is a Korean company).

Below is a statement from Samsung:
“Today’s verdict should not be viewed as a win for Apple, but as a loss for the American consumer. It will lead to fewer choices, less innovation, and potentially higher prices. It is unfortunate that patent law can be manipulated to give one company a monopoly over rectangles with rounded corners, or technology that is being improved every day by Samsung and other companies. Consumers have the right to choices, and they know what they are buying when they purchase Samsung products. This is not the final word in this case or in battles being waged in courts and tribunals around the world, some of which have already rejected many of Apple’s claims. Samsung will continue to innovate and offer choices for the consumer.”

Also, after reading the Steve Job's biography, here is a related except I'd like to share:
"I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong. I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product."
At the end of the day, people will still buy Apple. How about you?

    2. Some clever fellow on another site wrote: "if you really think of it, $1 billion is equals to 20,000,000,000 5 cent coins, and assuming each has volume of 0.59 ml, and then the total volume will be 11,800,000,000 mL or 11,800,000 L. A huge tank truck can carry over 34, 000 L. So in short, you need roughly 347 trucks to carry all the money to Apple’s headquarter not 30 trucks."

  4. Fuck Apple, shit company that I have always hated. I have NEVER bought an Apple product, and because of this case I will never ever do it either! I will urge my friends and do everything in my power to prevent them to buy trash from this provider for the rest of my life. That's a promise. Rot in hell Steve Jobs.

  6. By the end of the day, people will buy PCs with Windows from Microsoft and they have a shitload of lawsuits against them. Buying a Mac and a windows phone would be better (Android businesses are not cry about) but who would really follow his justice aspirations to at least support alternatives until they become mature enough to offer people the choice to give their money to something cleaner? Customers are always right but laziness rules.

  7. They should have made them little circles I guess how is a screen supposed to display test if not squarish is shape. The jury should have made the amount too I don't think it would have been a Billion dollars. Some entity should sue Apple for all the stuff that crook Jobs has stolen. Gates would be in prison forever for all the things Microsoft has stolen adn thieved away.
