ComicCon 2011 (Montreal)

*Update, new masquerade videos added, click here to view them.

The Montreal ComicCon is on this weekend and we (Ryan and I) decided to check it out. It's the first time I have ever been to any sort of comic book convention although I have been to card shows ages ago as a kid. There were some pretty big names in the geek world, namely Stan Lee, Adam Ward, James Marsters, Michael Dorn, Marina Sirtis and more.

We arrived just in time for the Masquerade which started off promising. The first few entrants were "Hit Girl" from the Kick-Ass movie and Supergirl posing to the Smallville theme, it was pretty funny. The MC was really mediocre, falling flat on all his jokes and being more of an annoyance than anything. There was also an interesting Predator costume with superhero parts as trophies and an ensemble from the Sucker Punch movie. See videos below.

Overall, there weren't that many costumed people. Of course this event pales in comparison to the San Diego ComicCon but the former is only a few years old. They had a working Batmobile and the Back To The Future DeLorean DMC-12 on site which was nice to see. Someone also made an R2-D2 replica that moved and made sounds that was also really cool.

Overall, it was a so-so experience. There aren't that many things that are special at this ComicCon and unless you are heavily into comics, costumes, games and anime, you might want to skip it. I still think the costumes are the best part of if all.

Pros: No real long line ups, some pretty big names and geeky fun

Cons: Not enough going on, will probably be a lot better in five years
