2013 Australian Open: Djokovic defeats Murray 6-7 7-6 6-3 6-2

In a repeat of the last Grand Slam final (2012 US Open) Novak Djokovic faced Andy Murray in the Aussie Final this year. Novak had an easier route to this final, not having to face Roger Federer or other power players like Tsonga and Del Potro. He did have to face #4 David Ferrer but Ferrer just can't seem to ever beat any of the top 3 ranked players. Novak's toughest match came against Stan Wawrinka, a gruelling 5-setter which saw Novak win 12-10 in the final set.

Unfortunately for Murray, the last set was a blow out at 6-2. Murray's movement was hampered by blisters and as much as they hurt, it's hard to use that as an excuse in a Grand Slam final.

Here was Djokovic's road to victory:
Finals - #1 A. Murray GBR 6-7 7-6 6-3 6-2
Semifinals - #6 D. Ferrer ESP 6-2 6-2 6-1
Quarterfinals - T. Berdych CZE [5] 6-1 4-6 6-1 6-4
4th Round  - S. Wawrinka SUI [15] 1-6 7-5 6-4 6-7 12-10
3rd Round - R. Stepanek CZE [31] 6-4 6-3 7-5
2nd Round - R. Harrison USA 6-1 6-2 6-3
1st Round - P. Mathieu FRA 6-2 6-4 7-5

Congrats to Novak for winning three Aussie Opens in a row and let's see how well he does this year!

  1. I woke up early to watch this and it was well worth it. Both men gave their all and put in an awesome performance. I was rooting for Nole, but it would have been okay if Murray had won.

    Congrats to both men.

Can't wait to see them stand up to Nadal at the French and Fed at Wimbledon.

  2. I really hope Nadal is better too! It is bad luck to get injuries and we need him to challenge Andy and Novak!
